The AIDS pandemic in Africa has left literally millions of AIDS orphans stranded without care, without life support, without a decent future. Yet, there are thousands and thousands who embrace and lift up those which have been dumped to the wayside of life: relatives, families, neighbours, communities, and churches.

Our OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) programme is like dew in the desert of these children. Through this programme they find a loving home, a church that that conveys values, and a promising perspective for their own lives. Helping Hands Africa assists the care-givers and helps them face the additional, often too-heavy-to-carry daily burden, benefiting the care-giver and the children.

Livestock is provided to provide the care-giving family offspring, milk or eggs, and meat. The first offspring is given to a needy neighbour and so the blessing is multiplied. The rest of the offspring generates income to the caregiver and the orphans. Farming supplies, in the form of seedlings and tools, are provided to plant vegetable gardens, yielding food and nutrition in the form of maize (corn), peanuts, sweet potatoes and vegetables, and the surpluses generate additional income to take care of the children.

We need to support these care-givers, churches and children. The outcome: orphans without hope get a start-up on their journey to dignity, opportunity and self-sufficiency. If you want to help the children and their care-givers with live stock, you can do so by contributing towards a cow for 350 US-$, a goat for 50 US-$, a piglet for 150 US-$, or a chicken for 5 US-$. Items used for farming can be supplied by contributing the following: maize (corn) seeds for 30 US-$, bean seeds for 45 US-$, fertilizer for 60 US-$, a wheel barrow for 35 US-$, a hoe and machete for 5 US-$, and a spray pump for 120 US-$.
