Fighting between government and rebel troops have brought inexpressible hardship and misery to thousands in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Fighting, rape and violence against the innocent and helpless, looting, burning, and destruction are the daily experiences of many, while the noises of cries, gunshots, broken glasses, and violent voices fill the night. The following morning often unveils a gruesome picture of both death and destruction. Female family members have been abused in front of their families, fathers brutally hacked to death with machetes, and children are being forced to join the military groups as child soldiers.

Helping Hands Africa, together with the Church of the Nazarene, is standing like a beacon on the ground. Church members open their doors and host refugees, strangers and family members alike, offering shelter, safety and food. Local churches have already raised
1.000 US-$, an enormous amount considering that the few people with an income have often less than 1,00 US-$ per day.

With your help, Helping Hands Africa would like to be able to assist 500 host and displaced families with a two months’ food ration and a basic household kit, for the displaced families, including mosquito nets and blankets at a price of 120 US-$ per family.
