Farming and Food Security Programme

Farming and Food Security Programme - Image As many parts of Africa are facing another year of food shortage, hunger, malnutrition, and possibly death, Helping Hands Africa feels strongly committed to tackle the terrible condition by its root, and thus mitigating the threat of hunger. We believe the answer lies in community conservation farming and irrigation, turning barren land into an oasis of blessing by being able to establish enough food resources that will go beyond the daily needs of the people and establish a food bank that will be there to feed and nourish the people when the need arises, especially in chronically affected areas of South-Eastern and Eastern Africa.

This farming method will produce more than 10 times the amount of crops than the average expected harvest, while at the same time requiring only training, basic tools, and manageable manpower.

HHA want to establish 5 farming projects in 2010 in the countries of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya, the DRC, and Burundi. Farmland will be provided by the people while HHA intends to assist with training, seeds, basic tools and supervision. Each project will target to benefit 200 families and requires an amount of 15.000 US-$, totalling 75.000 US-$. That is only 75 US-$ per family for a food secure future.
