New Playground for Mohlakeng CDC
Our Child Development Centre in Mohlakeng, South Africa, has received a complete facelift. A group of six dedicated and loving volunteers from Iowa/USA visited South Africa with a complete “Jungle Gym”, Paint, Tools, and other gifts in their luggage. Their mission: to renovate the building, and build a new play-ground for the children.
On their first Sunday they visited the church that hosts the Child Development Centre. They were warmly greeted by MaGrace, the leader of the CDC, the church leadership, and the congregation, as joyful songs filled the sanctuary. A walk around the building gave a first impression of what had to be done. The work began early on Monday morning, with the transporting of all the materials, tools and supplies. Soon you could hear the sound of lawn mowers, drills, hammers, and enthusiastic voices filling the air. The first work that had to be done, was the cleaning of the property and then mowing the 1/2 metre long grass and determine where the jungle gym would be erected. Others were busy scraping and cleaning the exterior wall, which then received a new coat of paint. Other urgent repairs were done. In the meantime the assembly of the jungle gym went on. By Friday all the work was completed, and the Mohlakeng Child Development Centre found itself with a brand new playground and renovated facilities. Over 100 children participated in the celebration, wearing new, bright-yellow t-shirts, singing songs of joy and praise, and then climbing, sliding, and swinging… simply enjoying themselves. Thank you dear members of the Iowa team ! |
