Growing up as a child was not easy for me. I really come from a dysfunctional family where my mother was an alcoholic. I do not know who my father is. I have never met him. Many nights when she was drunk she would hit us and yell at us. I then built myself a little shack in the backyard. When my mother would come home drunk , I would take my books and go into the shack with a torch and read.
Because our home had no dignity people regarded us as nobodies. People used to think that I will never amount to anything. When I was in grade 2 I got a gold medal for running during sports. When I was in grade 4 I got a certificate for being good in mathematics. I thank God for the people in the Naledi Child Development Centre. They kept me motivated by saying that I am a good child & that my past does not determine my future. Now I am in grade 8 and I go to the centre to do my homework and don’t have to worry about my mom being drunk when I get home. I am focused on becoming the best that I can be. Being in High School is not easy, there nobody spoils you like in Secondary school. I have always dealt with my challenges head on I will overcome this one too. I am going to be a doctor ! |
